The Commons in brief:

A wide open, independent first-stop-shop on the web for concerned citizens, researchers, students, policy makers, entrepreneurs, investors or social activists interested in quickly getting a feel for world sustainability issues, views and developments from an unbiased critical perspective. We invite open discussion, information sharing, diversity, complex thinking and collaborative initiatives for action.

Sustainability News Alerts
The internet gives us unprecedented opportunities to stay abreast of latest sustainability developments world wide. This handy tool provides one click overviews of latest news and developments around the world in five languages (and counting). Check it out with your morning coffee and get ready to rethink your thinking. You will be surprised to see how much is going on.

The New Mobility Agenda
Unconstrained by bureaucracy, economic interests or schedules, New Mobility was launched in 1988 as an open international platform for critical discussion, exchanges of materials and views, and diverse forms of cross-border collaboration on the challenging, necessarily conflicted topic of "sustainable transportation and social justice".

World Inventory of Sustainability Resources
One-click access to our continuously updated repertoire of hundreds of outstanding sustainability research and action programs and websites, each doing their bit to advance the sustainability agenda in some fifty countries world wide. Indexed and fully searchable. (Did we miss one of your best references? Let us know so it will be there for all to use.)

Women, leadership & sustainable development
Is it fair to say that one of the main reasons our societies today are at once so very unsustainable and socially unjust, is that we have fallen into the trap of traditional masculine behaviour and values? We think so, which means that one of the highest priority tasks of the sustainability movement must be to bring in many more women into leadership positions.
WBCSD on 'Sustainable Mobility'
The World Business Council for Sustainable Development has just completed an ambitious report by a consortium of auto and energy producers which set out to investigate 'pathways to sustainable mobility'. We have invited critical discussion and comment in the form of an International Peer Review in the hope of charting an ambitouis follow-up program.

Land Value Capture Initiative
When our public servants invest our hard earned taxpayer dollars in investments that improve our communities and increase the value of real estate in the impacted areas, some or all of this increment should be recouped in order to fund much needed public services. This is easy to say but hard to do. So tune in here and lend a hand in this important task.

New Ways to Work in an Information Society
A 21st century group work platform, mediated by a steadily expanding series of electronic and communications tools, and specifically targeted to encourage and support alternative thinking and hands-on experimentation in the fast-changing, often troubled and seriously under-explored new world of work. Attention to ways in which work/technology interface.

Personal Responsibility
Plenty of people are out there and talking the talk of sustainability, us included. But are you, are we walking the walk of sustainable lives? Check yourself out and draw a few conclusions for yourself. About yourself. It may change a few things in your own life, and yes! the world is looking at you for an example.
